The Risk Management applied to the safety of dams has been studied, improved and used worldwide, mainly as a result of events that have occurred and that have caused consequences, in some cases, devastating for the area downstream of the dam. However, within the estimation of consequences, an indispensable step in the Risk Analysis, the social type (people at risk and loss of life) and economic type (flood damage and effects on the water resource) have been included, but the issue of environmental consequences (affectation of physical and biotic components) has not been addressed.

Recognizing Bogotá, D.C. as one of the Latin American cities with the largest number of bicycle trips, compared to the capitals of countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico or Peru. The general objective is to determine the factors that motivate the users and non-users of a certain sector of the city of Bogotá, D.C., to use the bicycle as a means of daily transport. The methodology was descriptive, based on the application of a survey with a sample of 165 people who voluntarily agreed to answer it, with closed Likert questions and some open questions, whose instrument was statistically validated. In the sample there was a prevalence of women from the Usaquén locality in 36.84% compared to 26% of men. The results allowed us to identify safety, environmental, time saving, as well as health and personal care as motivating factors for the use of the bicycle. Those who tend to opt for the use of bicycles as a means of daily displacement between their place of residence and their workplace, belong to a young population under 40, with proximity in time and distance (average of 45 minutes and 20 km) from your residence to work, with very few or no person in charge, who does not use the private car in company, who does not prefer the bus or collective transport, Transmilenio and much less, the motorcycle, does not prefer the walk and shows inclination by individual means such as taxi or skateboard. It also has a cultural level that allows it to recognize the impacts and effects on personal health and the environment. The factors related to Facilities, Health, Safety and Times are classified as important or very important, unlike men.

Este artículo estudia el problema de localización de cámaras de vigilancia aplicado a una red de transporte público masivo. Se considera una red de estaciones conectadas entre sí, mediante rutas predeterminadas de buses. El problema estudiado consiste en escoger las estaciones que deben ser vigiladas mediante cámaras con el fin de optimizar simultáneamente dos objetivos: El valor esperado del número de crímenes detectados por las cámaras, y la calidad de las imágenes captadas por el sistema de vigilancia completo. Se formulan dos modelos de optimización basados en programación entera para este problema considerando múltiples períodos, restricciones de presupuesto y restricciones de conectividad donde se busca garantizar que al menos se cuente con una cámara de vigilancia por cada pareja de estaciones conectadas directamente. Se realiza una comparación del desempeño de los modelos matemáticos propuestos usando un optimizador comercial en un conjunto de instancias aleatorio con 20 hasta 200estaciones. Los resultados computacionales permiten concluir sobre la capacidad de los modelos matemáticos para encontrar soluciones óptimas y los recursos computacionales requeridos.

In contrast, real distributed collaboration that involves processing of data from several partners at different sites is rare. However, such distributed analyses are often very interesting, in particular, for scalability, security and privacy reasons. In this article, we motivate the need for real distributed biomedical analyses in the context of several ongoing projects, including the ICAN project that involves 34 French hospitals and affiliated research groups. We present a set of distributed architectures for such analyses that we have derived from discussions with different medical research groups and a study of related work. These architectures allow for scalability, security/privacy and reproducibility issues to be taken into account. Finally, we illustrate that these architectures can serve as the basis of a development method for biomedical distributed analyses.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is considered as an emerging technology with considerable potentialities. Its paradigm of everything connected together invaded the real world, with smart objects located in several daily appliances able to communicate autonomously through already existing network infrastructures. On the downside, the great advance carried by IoT in our life brings at the same time serious security issues, since the information flow among the objects remains mainly unprotected from malicious attackers. The paper at hand proposes TRIS, a novel sentinel to protect smart environments from cyber threats. Our sentinel shields the IoT devices using three defense rings, resulting in a more accurate protection. Additionally, we discuss the actual deployment of the sentinel using open-source tools. Exhaustive experiments are conducted on the sentinel, showing that the deployed sentinel performs meticulously even in heavily stressing conditions, thus demonstrating the applicability of TRIS in a distributed and dynamic scenario such as IoT.
