During the World Radiocommunication Conference held in Egypt in 2019[1],
standards and recommendations were set up for the development of studies in
fixed-satellite systems (FSS), more specifically in resolution 172 of that day,
where the issue of operation of earth stations on board planes and ships that
communicate with geostationary satellites of the fixed-satellite service in the
uplink (Earth-to-space) in the 12.75-13.25 GHz frequency band.
This article analyzes and evaluates the coexistence and compatibility of
interference between services in mobile earth stations (MES) and fixed satellite
services (FSS) that are in operation in the frequency band from 12.75 to 13.25
GHz and communicate with geostationary stations focused on region two.
For this, the technical specifications and characteristics of each service were
investigated, then, different scenarios were identified and selected where cases
of interference could occur, later a study was made of the possible locations
where cases of interference between these services could occur in Colombia, to
viii
finally establish the interference criteria, carry out the respective simulation in
SEAMCAT to collect the values of the variables of interest and make an analysis
of said results previously obtained.
The results obtained allow to infer that the compatibility of the band is successfully
conducted when using distances of more than 50Km between the primary
services and the interfering services, if a bandwidth of 3.5MHz is used, without
disregarding the classification made in the interference thresholds as: admissible,
acceptable, and harmful.
