In this research article, he presents the results of a study carried out with the purpose of documenting, automating and simulating the critical selection and recruitment process in an SME in the IT sector. This exercise is carried out under the Business Process Management BPM approach and aims to record a pilot test so that the company or any reader can later replicate this same analysis with other processes, giving way to the transfer of knowledge between the university and the different organizational areas of SMEs. This research is considered pertinent, since, in most SMEs, the processes, although they may be documented, are not automated, which can lead to higher costs due to the high workload, greater number of human errors, longer task execution time and the lack of performance indicators and process control in real time, resulting in more difficult, inefficient and ineffective tasks. The contribution is to present the step by step of a relatively simple automation so that in the near future SMEs can implement automation and simulation of their own processes, this is the reason for documenting the lessons learned found in this research. Now, for the execution of the investigation, in the first instance, a review of scientific literature is addressed, later, a discovery of the process is made, in which, the General Management of the SME analyzed, indicates that the most important process to work at that moment it is the Recruitment and selection of personnel, given the time foreseen for the investigation, the study was limited to a critical process. Once this process has been selected, it begins with a current diagnosis of it, through semi-structured interviews with all the personnel involved in the process, which allowed the design and documentation of the process in BPMN2.0 in the Bizagi Modeler® software, then the automation of the process in Bizagi Studio®, and finally the Bizagi Modeler® simulation is carried out, in order for the organization to more clearly identify the activities and with this, can make improvements in them, finally, the results obtained through the investigation and the conclusions of the work carried out. As a result, it is found that in the sub-process of hiring candidates, which is part of the selection and recruitment process, there is evidence of an opportunity for improvement and a *Financing: Universidad Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito, with the project DII/P008-2018 , from the Business Process Management Research incubator, from the Manufacturing and Services Research Center - CIMSER. Additionally, detailed documentation is delivered to the company in BPMN2.0 notation, automation and a simulation of the complete process, as well as a report on lessons learned. The results obtained from the scenario 2 proposal verified that, through the improvement proposal for the simulation of the selection and recruitment process modeled with BPMN 2.0, they demonstrated a significant improvement in times and costs for the company, and even better the workload for the human resources analyst which was previously too high. From the investigation it is concluded that the automation of processes theoretically does decrease the cycle time of the process, since it speeds up the activities of review, approval, exam qualification and admission tests, which directly influence costs; that making an annual projection gives savings of up to 40% of costs
