At the Barcelona East School of Engineering (CDB-EEBE) belonging to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, a project is being developed that aims to help patients keep track of the rehabilitation process in the upper limbs through use of a smart glove called MAXSENS. The construction of this glove is modular, and in the data acquisition system it implements, there is an electromyography (EMG) sensor which has the function of capturing and amplifying the electrical signals of the forearm muscles.
This project consists of the design and implementation of the circuit responsible for the acquisition of muscle electrical signals from the forearm. The circuit has two modules, one for acquisition, amplification and filtering that among its main components implements an AD8232 integrated circuit and another that allows the gain to be regulated by means of an automatic gain controller (AGC) whose main component is a variable gain amplifier. AD8330. First, the design of the circuits is carried out, then a simulation using the LTspice software and after this an assembly of the circuit on a breadboard. A functional test of the circuit is performed by placing the electrodes on the common extensor muscle of the fingers. Also, a 3D design of a printed circuit board (PCB) of the EMG signal acquisition module and the respective generation of the G code is made with the parameters for the manufacture of this PCB using a CNC routing machine.
