In Colombia, the percentage of watersheds exposed to direct dumping is high. These can be of domestic or industrial type, generating negative impacts on water quality, which means modifications in environmental indicators. The main objective of this work has been the use of tools for the simulation of events in watersheds that can influence on the quality of water at the source, in present and future times. The tool used, applied in the particular case analyzed - the Gualanday stream, in the Department of Tolima - constitutes a mathematical modeling called QUAL2K, applied as a technique to represent the Main parameters: BOD and OD, governing indicators of water quality. During the development of the work, the environmental conditions in the study area were determined, which influence and directly affect the water quality in the basin of the Gualanday creek . The uses, consumptions, sources of contamination and legal norms related to water quality were also defined, applicable to the Gualanday stream. As well, field and laboratory data were obtained to perform the modeling, under current conditions, and for removals. of BOD of 40% and 80%, respectively, in order to generate future predictions about the effectiveness of each of the possible wastewater treatment solutions. This work aims to highlight, therefore, the importance that the realization of this type of modeling of a water source, is a useful tool for the monitoring of parameters that represent its water quality, in order to carry out a control and monitoring of the basin and thus avoiding its deterioration
