La determinación de la eventual fractura abrupta de una estructura de hormigón armado es de fundamental importancia para estimar y mitigar los posibles daños causados por su fallo; de particular importancia son las fracturas de tipo cortante ya que éstas suelen conducir al fallo repentino de la estructura. Una forma de determinar la presencia de microfisuras de tipo cortante es mediante el análisis paramétrico de las emisiones acústicas producidas por las microfisuras durante su crecimiento. En este análisis, una comparación directa de la forma de onda permite distinguir entre eventos de tipo tracción y de tipo cizalladura. En el presente estudio, realizamos un análisis comparativo de los procesos de fractura en dos muros de hormigón armado. En uno de los muros se aplicó una fuerza fuera del plano que condujo a la flexión y a un fallo no abrupto; en el otro se aplicaron fuerzas diagonales que condujeron a una fractura abrupta de tipo cortante. Se detectaron emisiones acústicas en todo el ensayo y se comprobó que al menos uno de los parámetros asociados al análisis paramétrico permite distinguir entre fallos abruptos y no abruptos. Nuestros resultados sugieren que el análisis paramétrico de las emisiones acústicas podría ser una herramienta útil en la predicción de fallos abruptos en estructuras de hormigón armado.
Abstract (English)
The determination of the eventual abrupt fracture of a reinforced concrete structure is of fundamental importance to estimate and mitigate the possible damages caused by its failure; of particular importance are shear-type fractures since these usually lead to sudden failure of the structure. One way to determine the presence of shear-type micro-cracks is by parametric analysis of the acoustic emissions produced by the micro-cracks during their growth. In this analysis, a direct comparisson of the waveform allows a distinction to be made between tensiletype and shear-type events. In the present study, we performed a comparative analysis of fracture processes in two reinforced concrete walls. In one of the walls an out-of-plane force was applied leading to bending and a non-abrupt failure; in the other one diagonal forces were applied leading to an abrupt shear-type fracture. Acoustic emissions were detected throughout and we found that at least one of the parameters associated with the parametric analysis allows distinguishing between abrupt and non-abrupt failures. Our results suggest that parametric analysis of acoustic emissions could be a useful tool in the prediction of abrupt failures in reinforced concrete structures.
