Abstract (Spanish)
Considering that the decrease in enrollments of undergraduate student in private Higher Educations Institutions (HEI) in Colombia, which according to the figure published by National Higher Education Information System has been 10% from year 2017; and analyzing the high on dependence on enrollments income in private HEI, which higher than 85% according to what was stated by Dr. Cheyne principal of the Rosario University, it is urgent that HEI propose alternatives that contribute to income diversification, among which are contemplated, new strategies aimed a short-term programs, which allows certifying knowledge or competence, which would be managed through continuing education. Considering that HEIs apply new ways of transferring knowledge. Knowledge that is transferred in multiple ways and formats: continuing education programs, (Montesinos, 2019); knowledge management is applied, as a new philosophy that allow taking advantage of the benefits provided by the generation and use of knowledge, to improve performance, competitiveness, and effectively achieve the objectives (Freitas, 2017).
For the above, the objective of this investigation is to develop a methodological guide that contributes to improving the continuing education, process through the implementation of knowledge management.
To develop the methodological guide, a methodology based on four phases is proposed: the first phase consists of the literature review, through a strategic and systemic search; in the second phase, the information analysis is carried out, determining the characteristics of a knowledge management model and identifying the structure of the guide; phases three and four of the methodology, are executed iteratively since the preliminary guide is submitted to validation by experts and is adjusted until the final guide is obtained, which is taken as input for the development of the pilot test.

The pilot test developed at the Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería, had as its scope the implementation of phases 1 and 2 of methodological guide,. The results obtained show that the implementation of knowledge management strategies allows HESs to improve their continuing education process, in this specific case, 130 proposals to improve the process were identified; likewise, as a result of the pilot test, opportunities for improvement were identified in relation to the structuring of some processes, which were adopted giving rise to an adjusted version of the methodological guide.
Finally, the research raises initiatives that can be developed as future work, so that progress continues in the adoption of knowledge management, as a means to promote the collaborative participation of various actors, in search of effective solutions to problems of the institution.
