The design of superficial foundations as lightened foundation plates has traditionally been linked to the use of simplified methods, in which the behavior of the foundation obeys that of a rigid body and under this approach the values of the shear forces and moments, among others, necessary for the design of the structural elements that make up the foundation plate. On the other hand, the development of computer technology has allowed the creation of computer programs specialized in structural engineering. Nowadays, very complex calculations (which require solving a very large number of equations for their solution) can be done in a few seconds, something that a few decades ago was of little practicality in the calculation of structures, mainly due to the number of equations to be resolved, as mentioned above. The purpose of this work was mainly to apply post-tensioning to a foundation plate beam system and to evaluate 9 mathematical models, which were representative according to certain mechanical, soil and structure characteristics. Finally, with the results obtained, it is possible to appreciate the need to carry out the evaluation, analysis and design of the foundation system, composed of post-tensioned beams, through the use of at least 2 methodologies, traditional and modern, this due to the notable differences found when evaluating foundation plates with the methods described above.
