Abstract (Spanish)
Este artículo presenta el proceso de construcción y la modelación de dos estructuras a escala reducida (tablestaca y presa de tierra)para simular el flujo de agua en el suelo. Los modelos fueron creados para la enseñanza de flujo bidimensional en el curso de mecánica de suelos básica de la Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito. Estos modelos permiten la visualización a través de trazadores con tinta de las líneas de flujo en el suelo. Con la implementación de esta herramienta de enseñanza los estudiantes pueden evidenciar físicamente los conceptos matemáticos de flujo de agua que se plantean mediante ecuaciones diferenciales y se enseñan habitualmente por un método de solución gráfica denominado red de flujo. La visualización de las líneas de flujo les permite a los estudiantes entender la teoría y comprender el fenómeno físico.
Abstract (English)
This paper presents the construction process and modeling of two structures in a reduced scale (sheet pilings and earth dam) to simulate the flow of water into the soil. These models were created to teach bi-dimensional flow in the course of soil mechanics in the Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito. Using these models students can visualize flowlines thought tracers applied to the soil. Implementing this teaching tool the students see physically the mathematical concepts of differential equations that are commonly taught by using a graphic solution method called the flow net. Visualizing flow lines allows the students to understand the theoretical framework and physical phenomenon.
