| spa |
dc.description.abstract | The polystyrene core composite section panel is a construction system that has been in use since 1980's and has been used as dividing panels in residential buildings. The panel is generally compound by a sheet of expanded polystyrene coated on both sides with mortar and by electrowelded steel mesh, which are joined by connectors that cross the sheet.
The use of this panels in new buildings is increasing because of its reduce energy comsuption, reduce times in execution times and low generation of debris, this due to the versatility of the system.
Given the good performance and associated advantages that the panels have presented when being used as dividing elements inside the buildings, the companies that produce these elements want to test a new application when using them outside the buildings as a supporting structure for the façade elements The method followed to know the capacities and behavior of the panels and with the aim of implementing them as exterior elements of the buildings, an experimental program was proposed; in which 13 composite section panels were built and tested, with a thickness of 0.13 m, a height of 2.40 m and a variable width of 1.30 m (single panel), 2.60 m (coupled double panel) and 3.60 m (coupled triple panel) and they were subjected to pseudo-static and static loads, in plane and out of it.
The results of this experimental work, hysteretic behavior, most load and stiffness degradation, show that the panel without a façade has the capacity to absorb loads, presenting large deformations, without affecting the structural integrity of the specimen. However, when the panel that is supporting the porcelain façade presents greater deformations, this deformations cause failure in the porcelain tile anchors, causing them to detach. | eng |
