El GIMECI tiene por misión principal contribuir al desarrollo del país en todo lo concerniente al estudio de materiales y estructuras para la infraestructura civil. Desde su fundación el grupo cumple y expresa esta misión actuando en tres campos: i) la investigación, buscando soluciones innovadoras a las necesidades actuales de la industria de la construcción; ii) la consultoría especializada, aportando el conocimiento de sus miembros y las capacidades de sus laboratorios asociados al logro de los retos y la solución de los problemas propios del sector productivo, así como a la permanente actualización de las normas que rigen la construcción en el país, y, iii) la educación, contribuyendo a la formación de profesionales e investigadores con las capacidades de innovación y desarrollo que requiere nuestra sociedad actual.
