Abstract (Spanish)
Este artículo presenta la identificación y evaluación de los impactos generados durante el uso y la eliminación de compresas higiénicas y copas menstruales. La metodología adoptada para la evaluación ambiental se basa en la metodología Conesa [4]. Así mismo, para determinar la significancia ambiental con base en la evidencia o probabilidad de ocurrencia, se realizaron análisis de laboratorio para evaluar algunos parámetros fisicoquímicos a dos muestras de sangre menstrual humana y se determinó la cantidad de residuos sólidos generados por el uso de cada uno de estos productos tomando en cuenta una muestra poblacional. Como resultado, se determinó la calidad del residuo líquido desechado, es decir, la sangre menstrual, y se identificaron posibles impactos en los medios biótico, abiótico y socioeconómico, los cuales fueron comparados para cada uno de los productos. Los impactos negativos más relevantes fueron "Alteración de la economía local" presente en la actividad denominada eliminación de residuos sólidos de toallas sanitarias y "costumbres" presente en la actividad denominada uso de copas menstruales.
Abstract (English)
This article presents the identification and evaluation of the impacts generated during the use and disposal of sanitary Pads and menstrual cups. The methodology adopted for the environmental assessment is based on the Conesa methodology [4]. Likewise, to determine the environmental significance based on the evidence or probability of occurrence, laboratory analyses were conducted to evaluate some physicochemical parameters to two human menstrual blood samples and the amount of solid waste generated by the use of each was determined for each one of these products taking into account a population sample. As a result, the quality of the disposed liquid waste was determined; that is, menstrual blood, and possible impacts were identified on the biotic, abiotic, and socio-economic media, which were compared for each one of the products. The most relevant negative impacts were "Alteration of the local economy" present in the activity called disposal of sanitary pads’ solid waste and "customs" present in the activity called the use of menstrual cups.
