Los biodiscos son un sistema de tratamiento de aguas residuales del tipo de crecimiento adherido o reactor de película fija. Las lamas o películas biológicas crecen sobre discos, en rotación a través del agua residual, montados sobre un eje horizontal. La primera instalación fue hecha en Alemania Occidental en 1960; en E.U. existían 59 plantas de biodiscos en 1978, 308 en 1980 (1) y más de 600 en 1988, para caudales de menos de 0.04 m³/s y más de 2.2 m³/s. Biodiscs are a wastewater treatment system of the attached growth or fixed film reactor type. The slats or biofilms are grown on discs, rotating through the wastewater, mounted on a horizontal axis. The first installation was made in West Germany in 1960; in the U.S. there were 59 biodisc plants in 1978, 308 in 1980 (1) and more than 600 in 1988, for flow rates of less than 0.04 m³/s and more than 2.2 m³/s.
