mecánicas del actuador, a razón de analizar que repercusiones se tendrían según el prototipo;
Within the framework of the PrExHand project, name given to a cooperation agreement
between the Colombian School of Engineering Julio Garavito and University College London,
This research was developed aimed at designing and developing a prototype of an actuator
bio-inspired tire on the index finger of the hand, which functionally emulates its movement
bending. The design of this actuator is oriented to the creation of exoskeletons
based on soft robotics to contribute to the restoration of the well-being of people who
suffer disabilities as a result of cerebrovascular accidents or leg amputations
its upper extremities.
For this purpose, the following methodology was implemented: (i) a model of
design that concluded in two resulting prototypes, (ii) a procedure was determined and applied
for the manufacture of the two types of materials implemented (elastomeric and textile),
(iii) a series of preliminary tests were carried out to evaluate the performance and properties
mechanics of the actuator, in order to analyze what repercussions would be had according to the prototype;
and finally (iv) the results were compared against movement and force capacity
on each actuator.
As a conclusion, it was determined that the prototype made with elastomers presents results
potentials in relation to the capacity of force and orientation of the movement, which
are suitable characteristics to be applied both in a prosthesis and in an orthosis
hand. On the other hand, regarding the textile actuators, it was possible to conclude that they meet
with the performance requirements that were sought at the beginning of this work. It was determined
also that this type of actuator would be ideal in the development of wearable devices such
like assist gloves. However, it should be noted that for interfaces based on
textile material supports must be added through additional modules that increase the
stiffness and volume, in order to develop safer and more comprehensive assistive prostheses
For the users. Although it was concluded that the actuators worked, the
project with future tasks that complement this research based on the validation of
the prototypes to later be applied in the PrExHand hand exoskeleton
