There are between 60 and 100 million antipersonnel mines buried in some 60 countries, most of them in unknown locations; the indiscriminate use of this strategy of war, together with their arbitrary location, results in the mutilation or death not only of the actors in the conflict, but also of other innocent victims: adults, children and animals. The Red Cross estimates that detecting and deactivating all anti-personnel mines, with the current means, would take about a thousand years; in the face of this problem, the following solutions are being worked on: entry into force of the Ottawa Convention, assistance to victims and humanitarian demining, which has become a generalized purpose in the world. In order to help in the search for possible solutions to this problem, a report on antipersonnel mines in Colombia and some detection techniques is presented.eng
