dc.description.abstract | The durability of structures has become one of the most
important to deal with when talking about concrete buildings, this added to the lack of
disclosure of information regarding the failures and difficulties that have led to a difficult
treatment of knowledge about the methodologies used for their research in
together with the identification of failures and their prevention.
Below is a review of the general state of the failures that have been reported.
presented in some civil works where it is intended to make known the typical difficulties
of specific buildings together with their causes and consequences starting from the
basic exposition of differentiation between forensic engineering and pathological evaluation and
its role within a failure investigation process in concrete structures.
The development of this document focuses on the investigation of failures of
concrete structures with which we start by analyzing possible errors from ages
early stages of the building such as the design and conception phases of the structure,
It then passes through ages of development such as construction and supervision until
reach stages of operation and maintenance of the building. Emphasis is placed on the difficulties
general characteristics that may predominate each of the stages described above, as well as
the consequences highlighting the typologies of failure at a catastrophic or functional level.
In the same way, the particularity of the types of
failures in concrete structures in order to provide basic knowledge for a team
researcher on the classification of specific causes of failure of physical, chemical,
mechanical and biological approached from an objective point of view; each of them is specified
these actions in conjunction with the mechanisms that originate and trigger them
future risk effects for the structure.
Finally, having determined the general and specific causes of failure of a
concrete structure, an overview of alternative construction techniques is provided.
evaluation of the deterioration of a structure in order to quantify damage and therefore propose
viable solutions based on the principles of structural engineering (economics,
functionality, safety, environmental sustainability and aesthetics of the structures), this with the
in order to determine the degree of intervention of the structure following the stages of analysis and
evaluation to subsequently project repair, rehabilitation or
repowering.
In this way, an explanatory document of the methodologies of
investigation of failures in concrete structures knowing that each project must have
with the particularity of a detailed study specifically aimed at determining the
prognosis and subsequently the degree of intervention of the structure considering the
particularity of the execution and operation of each of the possible scenarios of
a civil work, therefore it will be complex to speak of a single general methodology of
failure investigation valid for the evaluation of all structures. | eng |
