| spa |
dc.description.abstract | In order to understand the hydraulic behavior of stirred tanks in this thesis it was studied a common geometry tank with a standard six-bladed Rushton turbine with four equally spaced baffles applying a Computational Fluid Dynamic (CDF) model in the software OpenFOAM. In the study it was analyzed the axial velocity, the turbulent kinetic energy, the rate of dissipation of the turbulent kinetic energy, the pressure, velocity and wall shear stress in the tank with a constant rotational speed of the impeller. In the model, it was applied three degrees of refinement of structured grids, numerical schemes of first and second order, and four model of turbulence, which data was used to compare the precision obtained. The result were validated with experimental data and previous results obtained with CDF. Throughout the study it was found out that the hydraulic behavior of the fluid can be modeled applying Computational Fluid Dynamics. Also, it was found out that 1) the refinement of the grid have a considerable influence in the precision obtained in the results, a higher degree grid generates better results, 2) the numerical schemes of second order have better results than the first order schemes and 3) the turbulence models do not have a considerable effect in the precision of the results. | eng |
