Incubators are medical devices created to provide neonatal patients with the correct environment for their development and growth. These devices have a transparent cabinet that allows maintaining the temperature and humidity, in addition to having a tray-holder that holds the x-ray detector, which allows making images without maneuvering the patient. In the neonatal ICU service of the Hospital Universitario Mayor Méderi it was observed that the x-ray images taken using the chassis holder of an incubator generated a contrast that prevented the diagnosis of the patient, the radiology technologist performs more shots seeking to improve the quality of the image but in turn increases the radiation dose of the patient, who being a neonate requires greater attention to these values. The existing attenuation percentages in the largest number of incubators of the service are reviewed, testing with all the portable x-ray equipment possible, since it is with this equipment that the image is taken. We found a percentage of attenuation in the objects from 5 to 36% and a total attenuation between 35 and 70%. The equipment with the highest attenuation uses a tray of metallic material, and the equipment with the lowest attenuation uses plastic objects. It is recommended to review the material of each incubator before purchase in order to avoid as much as possible the loss of quality in the neonatal images.
