Abstract: As is general knowledge, it is necessary to establish safety parameters for all road users, additionally the vulnerable users (motorized and non-motorized) are the ones most affected by the increase of lanes in a national roadway because the contractors, designers and builders priorities are not the regulations for road safety they are most interested in to reduce the time connections between cities and the distribution points in the country. They must include lightweight and heavyweight vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, in the engineering designs of the highways. The Colombia Government legitimated the “Plan Nacional de Seguridad Vial 2011-2021”, and it´s the first time in the Colombian history the road safety has become in one of the most important topics in the country and the government can make a calling for the entire international community to declare this time as the decade of action in road safety, it must transcends the plans and programs of a period of government. We are frequent users highways in Colombia and once we have seen the wrong actions of drivers of vehicles, as well as vulnerable users when it has to share a highway only designed for vehicular traffic, because the prelations are not defined, they don´t respect the traffic rules, the existing traffic signs and the non-existence safe infrastructure for the free movement of vulnerable users. The last mentioned problems create conflicts that must be solved in conjunction with the entities involved in the construction and maintenance of roads to achieve a decrease in the percentage of accidents with vulnerable users involved and nowadays is currently evident and increasing day per day, the proposed highway section for studying is an evidence of this problem.
